Feminism Past and Present: Screening of Suffragette followed by Q&A with historians and activists
Join Feminist Fightback for an evening of ‘Feminism Past and Present’
6pm, 15th October 2015, Genesis Cinema, London
The special screening of ‘Suffragette’ will be followed by a Q&A with members of the East-London based collective Feminist Fightback).
‘Suffragette’ tells the stories of ‘ordinary’ working women, living in London’s East End, who threw themselves into the fight for the vote. Unlike most histories of the women’s suffrage movement, which focus on its middle-class leadership, this film stars Carey Mulligan and Anne-Marie Duff as laundry-women, juggling ten-hour working days with raising their children and blowing up stately homes in the name of the Cause.
