Join us this May for a joint film screening with Decrim Now! We will be screening Princesas (english title Princesses) a 2005 film (1h49min) by Fernando Leon de Aranoa. Its a story about friendship in the world of prostitution, showcasing issues around sex work, migration and xenophobia.

Exhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged.

Feminisms is a collection of ten essays from a diverse milieu of writers on the subject of feminism. Each piece is illustrated by Cat Sims.

This March join us as we show a film that raises more questions than answers. We will be screening the Greek documentary theatrical ‘Babybird Babybird’ (2021, 1h30) by Dimitris Bampilis and the APARÄMILLON creative team, that was commissioned and produced by Onassis Stegi.

Why we do (not) have children? Parents-to-be, a new mother, a midwife, a demographer, a sociologist, a neuroscientist, and an anti-natalist YouTuber share their respective opinions on the sexiest ontological question, and take part in a documentary theater performance about the complicated relationship between our sexual life and our reproductive potential.

They explore concepts and issues that include ‘low birth rate,’ ‘overpopulation,’ motherhood as a conscious personal choice, pregnancy termination, prenatal checks, national healthcare policy, sperm banks, and dating apps. Using interviews and statistics, personal testimonies and scientific studies, discretion and humor, they intervene into the debate regarding birthrate and parenthood, a recurring debate since moral panic and rhetoric on the dangers of “corrupting the nation” tend to dominate it.

Sex workers Juno Mac and Molly Smith bring a fresh perspective to questions that have long been contentious. Speaking from a growing global sex worker rights movement, and situating their argument firmly within wider questions of migration, work, feminism, and resistance to white supremacy, they make it clear that anyone committed to working towards justice and freedom should be in support of the sex worker rights movement.

Sister Midnight (2024, 110mins) by Karan Kandhari is a film about a misanthropic newlywed giving into her feral impulses which lead her to unlikely situations.

Uma travels to Mumbai for a newly arranged marriage. The oddball couple shoved together in a small Mumbai shack with paper-thin walls are awkward and alone-together. Uma does her best to cope with the heat, her total lack of domestic skills, nosy neighbours and her bumbling spouse until the nocturnal world of Mumbai and its inhabitants lead her to face her own strange behaviours. And then things take a surreal turn.

🎥Join Feminist Fightback Filmclub this November to watch The Spies Who Ruined Our Lives (2024, 88min) a gripping documentary that exposes police surveillance of activists, revealing the devastating impact of undercover officers who infiltrated groups, formed intimate relationships, and betrayed trust.

👀For over 40 years, a secret organization spied on British citizens. This secret organization infiltrated over 1000 groups by creating new personas using the stolen identities of dead children. They used these new personalities to start relationships with women and once they got what they wanted, they abandoned the women and vanished without trace.

👮🏻‍♂️The women wouldn’t find out the truth until decades later. The men were in fact, undercover police officers who were infiltrating completely lawful groups.

“The spies who ruined our lives” is a not for profit feature length documentary film, Produced, Directed and edited by Justyn Jones and Madoc Roberts with Jason Kirkpatrick as associate producer . Last Sunday, Feminist Fightback, the Feminist Asse

Last Sunday, Feminist Fightback, the Feminist Assembly of Latin Americans (FALA) and the Freedom to Live Coalition hosted a Feminist Assembly on Reproductive Justice at the Feminist Library.

The Assembly provided an open space for discussion on what reproductive justice means to us as feminists, and how our collective rights are being threatened in the current climate of increasing far right rhetoric and threats. We reflected on previous actions fighting for reproductive justice, and shared our experiences of what has worked and what hasn’t. We ended by brainstorming what’s next for the movement and how we can build momentum towards reproductive justice in the UK and in solidarity across borders

Its not just about the right to choose; its also about the right to raise a family above the poverty line, to create a family outside of the heteropatriarchal norms, for families to stay together and to chose where they live in the face of borders and racism, to provide freedom of expression and self-direction to children and young people, and so much more.

Lets move the conversation beyond the fight for abortion rights to all the other ways reproductive justice touches our lives and intersects with all our daily struggles.

Leah Cowan’s book deals with the tangled history of feminism’s complicity and resistance as it traces the history of British feminism’s alliances and struggles with the law and its enforcers. Drawing on the legacy of Black British feminism, Leah Cowan reminds us of the vibrant and creative alternatives envisioned by those who have long known the truth: the police aren’t feminist, and the law does not keep women safe.

🎥Join Feminist Fightback Filmclub and the Nanny Solidarity Network on the 26 September as we screen Roma (2018, 135mins) by Alfonso Cuarón.

🎞Roma is an epic film that delivers a vivid, emotional portrait of a domestic worker’s journey set against domestic and political turmoil in 1970s Mexico. Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón recreates the early-1970s Mexico City of his childhood, narrating a tumultuous period in the life of a middle-class family through the experiences of Cleo, the indigenous domestic worker who keeps the household running. Charged with the care of four small children abandoned by their father, Cleo tends to the family even as her own life is shaken by personal and political upheavals.
