Feminist Fightback Filmclub presents: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
October 27, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Join Feminist Fightback for our Halloween film showing as this year we watch together Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014). Amirpour’s black and white debut film has become a cult classic often called the first Iranian vampire western.
Set in the fictitious Iranian ghost town of Bad City, the film features a chador-wearing, skateboarding young female vampire known only as The Girl, who stalks the streets of the city at night preying on unsavory men.
The Girl, with her vampiric teeth and supernatural powers, subverts the image of the veiled woman as submissive, turning the victimhood suggested by the film’s title on its head. This girl walks alone at night with no fear; she is the one to be feared.
Exhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. Drinks and snacks will be available.
Suggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity.
All genders welcome.
Doors open at 7pm.
