DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our winter reading group book: A Short History of Trans Misogyny By Jules Gill-Peterson. \nThis book offers a refreshing intervention into the historical underpinnings of misogyny against trans women. Taking a global approach\, Jules Gill-Peterson demonstrates that trans misogyny was not inevitable\, it was created within certain historical conditions. Throughout\, Gill-Peterson details examples of trans feminism that challenged colonial governments\, policing\, and exploitative working conditions. In drawing on this rich history\, Gill-Peterson offers new ways of thinking about and fighting against modern trans misogyny. \nThe book is 192 pages long. We will discuss this book in four sessions\, two chapters at a time: \nMonday 9th of December (61 pages): \n\nIntroduction: Femmes against Trans\nChapter 1: The Global Trans Panic\, Defense of self\, defense of the nation\n\nMonday 13th of January (36 pages): \n\nChapter 2: Sex and the Antebellum City\n\nMonday 10th of February (58 pages) \n\nChapter 3: Queens of the Gay World\nConclusion: Mujerísima and Scarcity Feminism\n\nPlease come having read the relevant chapters. DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our monthly organising meeting. We’re an anti-capitalist feminist collective and we meet the third Sunday of every month\, 3.30pm-6.00pm. DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback together with London Trans Pride for a film showing. This month we are showing Kokomo City(73min)\, a 2023 documentary film directed by D.Smith. \nThis award winning documentary follows four Black transgender sex workers\, who break down the walls of their profession. Holding nothing back\, the film vibrates with energy\, sex\, challenge and hard-earned wisdom. \nContent warnings: strong sexual content\, graphic nudity\, racism\, transphobia\, drug use\, discussions of abuse\, violence\, trauma\, transphobia\, racism\, sex work. \nExhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. Drinks and snacks will be available. \nSuggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity. \nAll genders welcome. \nDoors open at 7pm. \nACCESS:  \nThe film showing will take place on the ground floor of Pelican House\, in the room at the back of the courtyard. The toilets are on the same same level. The space and toilets are level access from the road. \nClosest stations Bethnal Green tube station and Bethnal Green overground station. \nClosest bus stops Cephas Street and Three Colts Lane for the 106 and 254 buses. \nWe recommend you dress up warm as the Pelican House event space can get chilly.
