SUMMARY:Feminist Assembly: Lets talk about what reproductive justice means for us
DESCRIPTION:After comming together in the streets for another year in September to oppose the christian fundamentalist and hard right anti-abortion movement\, our coalition wants to broader the discussion. \nJoin us  for an afternoon of collective reflection\, discussion and action as we explore together what the reproductive justice means for each of us. \nIts not just about the right to choose; its also about the right to raise a family above the poverty line\, to create a family outside of the heteropatriarchal norms\, for families to stay together and to chose where they live in the face of borders and racism\, to provide freedom of expression and self-direction to children and young people\, and so much more. \nLets move the conversation beyond the fight for abortion rights to all the other ways reproductive justice touches our lives and intersects with all our daily struggles. \nAgenda \n\n1pm Lunch\n2pm Reproductive justice and what it means to us\n3pm Learning from past feminist movements – what’s worked and what hasn’t\n4pm Building forward – setting priorities and planning new actions\n\nThe assembly brings together groups including Feminist Fightback\, Feminist Assembly of Latin Americans\, Trans Kids Deserve Better\, RS21\, Razem London and others forming a wider coalition of feminist\, queer\, trans\, migrant and anti-racist activists. \n\nEveryone is welcome — whether you’ve been part of our actions before or are joining for the first time. \nEntry is free\, and we’ll have food\, space to rest and a chance to connect with organisers. \n\n  \nRegister here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/feminist-assembly-lets-talk-about-what-reproductive-justice-means-for-us-tickets-1845589069589?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback reading group: Why would feminists trust the police? - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our autumn reading group book: Why Would Feminists Trust the Police?: A tangled history of resistance and complicity by Leah Cowan \nLeah Cowan’s book deals with the tangled history of feminism’s complicity and resistance as it traces the history of British feminism’s alliances and struggles with the law and its enforcers. We will discuss this book in three sessions: \nMonday 13th of October (58 pages): \n\nIntroduction: Why Would Feminists Trust the Police?\nChapter 1: False Histories in the Shadow of Empire\n\nMonday 10th of November (68 pages): \n\nChapter 2: A Symphony of Order and Chaos\nChapter 3: The ‘Sectorification’ of Radical Struggle\n\nMonday 8th of December (70 pages) \n\nChapter 4: Feminisms of Fear and Resistance in the New Millennium\nChapter 5: Defund\, Abolish\, Now\n\nPlease come having read the relevant chapters. \nThe event will be at Vibast Community Centre\, 267 Old Street\, London EC1V 9NH. It is about 3 minutes walking from Old Street station\, or the 55 and 243 buses stop just in front of the Centre. SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback Filmclub presents: The Spies Who Ruined Our Lives
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback Filmclub this November to watch The Spies Who Ruined Our Lives (2024\, 88min) a gripping documentary that exposes police surveillance of activists\, revealing the devastating impact of undercover officers who infiltrated groups\, formed intimate relationships\, and betrayed trust. \nFor over 40 years\, a secret organization spied on British citizens. This secret organization infiltrated over 1000 groups they wanted to spy on. To achieve this\, they created new personas by stealing the identities of dead children. They used these new personalities to start relationships with women. They also used their new identities to have sex with women and in some cases\, they even had children. Then once they had what they wanted\, they abandoned the women and vanished without trace. \nThe women wouldn’t find out the truth until decades later. The men were in fact\, undercover police officers who were infiltrating completely lawful groups. \nWhen their activities were exposed\, rather than taking immedate action\, the government ordered an inquiry\, which was to be held in secret\, and the identities of 140 undercover spies were hidden. \n\n\nWatch the trailer here: https://vimeo.com/907825485\n\n\n\n\n\n“The spies who ruined our lives” is a not for profit feature length documentary film\, Produced\, Directed and edited by Justyn Jones and Madoc Roberts with Jason Kirkpatrick as associate producer . It has been made to raise awareness and give a comprehensive and historical perspective of the Spycops scandal.  \n  \n\n\n\nExhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. \nDrinks and snacks will be available. \nSuggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity. \nAll genders welcome. \nDoors open at 7pm. \nACCESS:  \nThe film showing will take place on the ground floor of Pelican House\, in the room at the back of the courtyard. The toilets are on the same same level. The space and toilets are level access from the road. \nClosest stations Bethnal Green tube station and Bethnal Green overground station. \nClosest bus stops Cephas Street and Three Colts Lane for the 106 and 254 buses.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this January as we start the year with a genre-bending comedy to beat the winter blues. \nSister Midnight (2024\, 110mins) by Karan Kandhari is a film about a misanthropic newlywed giving into her feral impulses which lead her to unlikely situations. \nUma travels to Mumbai for a newly arranged marriage. SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback Filmclub presents: Babybird Babybird
DESCRIPTION:This March join us as we show a film that raises more questions than answers. We will be screening the Greek documentary theatrical ‘Babybird Babybird’ (2021\, 1h30) by Dimitris Bampilis and the APARÄMILLON creative team\, that was commissioned and produced by Onassis Stegi. \nWhy we do (not) have children? Parents-to-be\, a new mother\, a midwife\, a demographer\, a sociologist\, a neuroscientist\, and an anti-natalist YouTuber share their respective opinions on the sexiest ontological question\, and take part in a documentary theater performance about the complicated relationship between our sexual life and our reproductive potential. \nThey explore concepts and issues that include ‘low birth rate\,’ ‘overpopulation\,’ motherhood as a conscious personal choice\, pregnancy termination\, prenatal checks\, national healthcare policy\, sperm banks\, and dating apps. Using interviews and statistics\, personal testimonies and scientific studies\, discretion and humor\, they intervene into the debate regarding birthrate and parenthood\, a recurring debate since moral panic and rhetoric on the dangers of “corrupting the nation” tend to dominate it. \nAfter the screeening we will have a Q&A with the team behind the production. \nSee the trailer here \nExhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. \nDrinks and snacks will be available. \nSuggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity. \nAll genders welcome. \nDoors open at 7pm. \nACCESS:  \nThe film showing will take place on the second floor of Pelican House. The toilets are on the same level. There is a lift. \nClosest stations Bethnal Green tube station and Bethnal Green overground station. \nClosest bus stops Cephas Street and Three Colts Lane for the 106 and 254 buses.
