SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback Reading Group: Greater than the sum of our parts: feminism\, inter/nationalism & Palestine - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback and friends for the second book in our short look  at the Palestinian struggle. After January’s fiction respite we will spend February and March discussing the “Greater than the sum of our parts: feminism\, inter/nationalism & Palestine” \nIn this bold book\, Palestinian activist Nada Elia unpacks Zionism\, from its hypermilitarism to incarceration\, its environmental devastation and gendered violence. She insists that Palestine’s fate is linked through bonds of solidarity to other communities crossing racial and gender lines\, weaving an intersectional feminist understanding of Israeli apartheid throughout her analysis. \nWe will discuss this book in two sessions: \n\nMonday 26th of February:\n\nIntroduction- Feminist\, Abolitionist\, and Indigenous Horizons\nin the Struggle Against Settler Colonialism and Apartheid (15p)\nChapter 1 – Settler Colonialism and Indigenous Resistance from\nPalestine to Turtle Island (26p) and\nChapter 2 – Déjà Vu: Beyond Apartheid (28p)\nChapter 3 – Social and Political Liberation: No Free Homeland Without\nFree Women and Queers (27p)\,\n\n\nMonday 25th of March:\n\nChapter 4 – On This Land: Land and Cultural Reclamation from Turtle\nIsland to Palestine (25p) and\nChapter 5 – A Global Intifada (23p)\nEpilogue: Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts (4p)\nAppendix: Pledge—Palestine is a Feminist Issue (2p)\n\n\n\nPlease come having read the text. Drop us a line if you would like more details and to let us know if you will be joining\, so we have an idea of numbers at feminist.fightback@gmail.com. \nThese will take place in person at Golden Lane Community Centre\, Golden Lane Estate\, London EC1Y 0SA. The venue is fully accessible. Please arrive at 7.30 for 7.45 start; we will finish at 9.00pm. All genders welcome.

SUMMARY:Why is Palestine a feminist issue? Feminist assembly & political education workshop
DESCRIPTION:From London to Palestine\, Abya Yala to Kurdistan\, our fight for liberation and solidarity must cross borders. None of us are free until all of us are free. \nThe freedom of Palestinians is intrinsic to our collective freedom against all forms of oppression. As feminists we support all liberation movements to combat injustice: we are building a movement to overcome colonial\, imperialist and patriarchal systems\, to build a more just world together. \nThe Feminists for Palestine coalition is organising a collective political education workshop to build upon the work and discussions we have had organising a feminist block during the ongoing Palestine demonstrations and this year’s Women’s Strike for Liberation. \nAgenda\n\n2.00pm – 3.30pm: Speakers and Q&A\n3.30pm – 5.00pm: Workshop\n5.00pm-6.00pm: Communal meal\n\nRegistration and updates\nPlease register if you will attend so that we can keep you informed of any updates and further details about the event and so that we know numbers for the communal meal. \nFor updates you can also follow us on instagram: @falatinamericans\, @feminist_fightback \nLocation and accessibility\nThe event is taking place on the ground floor of Golden Lane Community Centre\, Fann Street\, London EC1Y 0SA. \nThe venue is fully accessible. \nIf you are coming by tube\, the Barbican station is a short walk away. If you are coming by bus\, the 4\, 56 and 153 buses have stops also a short walk away. \nWe are not able to set up and provide an online option to join this event\, so it will be in person only.

SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback Reading Group: Interviews with Radical Palestinian Women
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback and friends for the third and last book in our short look at the Palestinian struggle. Having read a fiction book (Minor Detail) and a non-fiction book (Greater than the sum of our parts)\, we’re now going to read ‘Interviews with radical Palestinian women’\, a book edited by the Shoal collective. \nThis book covers the struggles against colonialism\, white supremacy\, conservatism\, patriarchy\, state control and occupation. In the Shoal Collective’s own words: \nThe idea for this book came out of a concern that solidarity movements have a tendency only to engage with Palestinians about their fight against the Israeli occupation. Sometimes this can be a barrier to seeing them as comrades in our intersecting struggles for a better world and against authoritarianism\, white supremacy\, patriarchy\, capitalism and state control. \nFor this session we don’t expect you to have read the whole book. Instead\, please come having read at least a couple of the interviews\, and be ready to explain them to those who may have chosen to read different interviews than you. \nThis book can be bought in paper format or pdf or downloaded for free from the Shoal Collective’s website. It can also be found in brick and mortar bookshops like Housmans or Foyles. \nYou don’t need to have participated in the previous Feminist Fightback reading group sessions on Palestine to show up – everyone is welcome. Drop us a line if you would like more details at feminist.fightback@gmail.com. \nThe session will take place in person at Golden Lane Community Centre\, Golden Lane Estate\, London EC1Y 0SA. The venue is fully accessible. Please arrive at 7.30 for 7.45 start; we will finish at 9.00pm. All genders welcome.

SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback reading group: Self-Defense: A Philosophy of Violence - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our summer reading group book: Elsa Dorlin’s Self-Defense: A Philosophy of Violence\, translated from the french by Kieran Aarons. \nThis book is a study of violent self-defense in the struggle for liberation. In the history of colonialism\, racism\, sexism\, capitalism\, there has long been a dividing line between bodies “worthy of defending” and those who have been disarmed and rendered defenceless. \nElsa Dorlin looks across the global history of the left – from slave revolts to the knitting women of the French Revolution and British suffragists’ training in ju-jitsu\, from the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to the Black Panther Party\, from queer neighborhood patrols to Black Lives Matter – to trace the politics\, philosophy\, and ethics of self defense. \nThe book is 272 pages long. We will discuss this book in four sessions\, two chapters at a time: \nTuesday 28th of May \n\nPrologue\, What a body can do\nThe production of disarmed bodies\nDefense of self\, defense of the nation\n\nMonday 24th of June \n\nTestaments of self-defense\nThe state\, or the non-monopoly on legitimate defense\n\nMonday 29th of July \n\nWhite justice\nSelf-defense: power to the people\n\nMonday 30th of September \n\nSelf-defense and safety\nReprisals\n\nPlease come having read the relevant chapters. Drop us a line if you would like more details at feminist.fightback@gmail.com. \nWe urge people to buy the book or borrow it from a library\, if they can find it\, to support the author. However if you are not able to do either\, we can provide you with a link to read it online. \nAs an exception the first session will take place at Vibast Community Centre\, 167 Old St\, London EC1V 9NH. The venue is fully accessible. Please arrive at 7.00 for 7.15 start; we will finish at 8.30pm. All genders welcome.

SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback Filmclub presents: Concerning Violence
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our September film showing. This month we are showing Concerning Violence(89min)\, a 2014 documentary film written and directed by Göran Olsson. \nConcerning Violence is a bold and fresh visual narrative of African nationalist and independence movements in the 1960s and 1970s based on archive material from Swedish documentaries covering the most daring moments in the struggle for liberation from colonial rule. This powerful footage is combined with text from Frantz Fanon’s landmark book The Wretched of the Earth – written in 1960 and still a major tool for understanding and illuminating the neocolonialism happening today\, as well as the unrest and the reactions against it. \nContent warnings: scenes of military violence\, descriptions of torture\, racist language\, scenes of apartheid \n  \nExhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. Drinks and snacks will be available. \nSuggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity. \nAll genders welcome. \nDoors open at 7pm. \nACCESS:  \nThe film showing will take place on the ground floor of Pelican House\, in the room at the back of the courtyard. SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback reading group: A Short History of Trans Misogyny By Jules Gill-Peterson
DESCRIPTION:Join Feminist Fightback for our winter reading group book: A Short History of Trans Misogyny By Jules Gill-Peterson. \nThis book offers a refreshing intervention into the historical underpinnings of misogyny against trans women.
