SUMMARY:Feminist Fightback reading group: Chicken Soup with Barley
DESCRIPTION:90 years ago on the 4th October 1936 the people of London defeated the police and Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists at Cable Street as they attempted to march through the East End. At the time this was a mostly Jewish area and fascists were targeting Jews and Communists. \nChicken Soup with Barley is about a Jewish Communist family living in the East End of London\, following their participation in the battle of Cable street and the personal and political struggles and triumphs they experience as the 20th century wears on. \nJoin Feminist Fightback to participate in reading the play aloud together followed by a discussion \n🗓️7-9pm Tuesday 13th October \n📍Portsoken Community Centre\, Aldgate (not quite cable street but close!). We are meeting upstairs\, venue has a lift. \nCopies of the play will be provided on the day.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this October for a horror film! We will be screening Saint Maud (1h 24min)\, directed by Rose Glass. The film follows Maud\, a religious hospice nurse assigned to care for a terminally ill former dancer\, as her faith and obsession begin to blur. \nExhibiting anger/ joy during the film at oppressive behaviour/ high points of struggle very much encouraged. \nDrinks and snacks will be available. \nSuggested donations on the door £2/5/10 unwaged/waged/solidarity. \nAll genders welcome. \nDoors open at 7pm. \nACCESS:  \nThe film showing will take place at People’s Letters. \nClosest stations Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath stations.
