Feminist Fightback Film Club Presents: A story of police violence in France and J’veux du soleil

February 28, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This month, in view of the ongoing events in France, we will be showing two documentaries about the yellow vests in France.

The first is the short “A story of police violence in France” by Ross Domoney which tells the story of three lives affected by police violence in France during the Gilets Jaunes protests. The so-called “sub-lethal” riot control weapons used by French police against protesters have caused dozens of mutilations and serious injuries since the beginning of the movement.

The second is the French 2019 documentary J’veux du soleil (A place in the sun) by Gilles Perret and François Ruffin. J’veux du soleil is a road-movie, where the cinematographers travel the French countryside, meeting and talking to Gilets Jaunes on roundabouts and in their homes. The documentary lets the people speak for themselves and shows us the human stories behind the Gilets Jaunes movement.

The films will be introduced by Ross Domoney, the director of the first one.

As usual we will have a discussion after the film, and drinks and snacks will be available.

Doors open at 7pm. Suggested donation £2 unwaged/ £3 low waged/ £5 higher waged.
