In the month of International Women’s Day, Feminist Fightback and London IWW are showing Year of the Beaver, a film about the Grunwick Strike of 1976.
The strike at the Grunwick photographic processing plant, with a workforce predominated by Asian women, lasted for 2 years. Year of the Beaver is focused on the experiences of the workers who were involved in the dispute, and explores the roles played by the media, police and even union leadership in sabotaging and breaking the strike.
Before we show the film, there will be a brief talk on the background of the Grunwick strike, and on the workplaces in west London where many migrant women work today.
£5 waged, £3 unwaged. Drinks and snacks available.
